This issue has been written about a couple of times, but one more blog about this subject with a couple of screen shots will not hurt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">First, verify which edition of SQL Server you are running is by running &#8220;SELECT @@VERSION&#8221; in a SSMS query window.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/upgrade001.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-390\" alt=\"Standard Version 2012 Enterprise (DVD\/ISO).\u00a0 When the SQL Server Installation Center app appears, click on the \u201cMaintenance\u201d link on the top left panel of the app.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/upgrade002.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-391\" alt=\"Maintenance Link\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/upgrade002.jpg\" width=\"532\" height=\"288\" the right panel of the SQL Server Installation Center app, click on the \u201cEdition Upgrade\u201d link.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/upgrade003.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-392\" alt=\"Edition Upgrade Link\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/upgrade003.jpg\" width=\"801\" height=\"202\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A new app box will appear.\u00a0 This app will do a scan for \u201cSetup Support Rules\u201d.\u00a0 If this scan succeeds, then click the OK button in the bottom right corner of the app.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/upgrade004.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-393\" alt=\"Rules Scan\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/upgrade004.jpg\" width=\"817\" height=\"613\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/upgrade004.jpg srcset=\"http:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/upgrade005.jpg 550w, http:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/upgrade005-300x56.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/upgrade005-210x39.jpg 210w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The \u201cUpgrade the Edition for SQL Server 2012\u201d app will appear.\u00a0 This will perform a scan for the \u201cSetup Support Rules\u201d.\u00a0 A different scan then the one performed before.\u00a0 Click the NEXT button when the scan has completed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/upgrade006.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" screen.\u00a0 Drop the combo box down to select the instance that you wish to upgrade.\u00a0 A list of recognized instances will be list in the Installed instances grid box.\u00a0 Then click on the NEXT button.\u00a0 A please wait box may appear for a couple of seconds.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/SelectInstance01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" next.\u00a0 In the text box will appear a list of item that are going to be upgraded.\u00a0 After reviewing this list, click on the UPGRADE button.<\/p>\n<p><a screen if the upgrade has succeed.\u00a0 Click the CLOSE button.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/upgrade010.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" Center\u201d app, by click the X box in the top right hand corner.<\/p>\n<p>Verify that SQL Server has upgraded by running the \u201cSELECT @@VERSION\u201d in a SSMS query window.<\/p>\n<p><a sizes=\"(max-width: 422px) 100vw, 422px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Final Note: To the best of my knowledge, no reboot is required after the upgrade is finished. \u00a0I have ran a test on each SQL 2008R2 &amp; SQL 2012.\u00a0 Both did not require a reboot.\u00a0 This was on a Server 2008R2 operating system.\u00a0 Please test before attempting this in a production
