{"id":2050,"date":"2022-07-04T11:56:10","date_gmt":"2022-07-04T11:56:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/?p=2050"},"modified":"2022-07-04T12:02:49","modified_gmt":"2022-07-04T12:02:49","slug":"excel-error-ssl-provider-error-0-the-certificate-chain-was-issued","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/?p=2050","title":{"rendered":"Excel Error: SSL Provider, error: 0 &#8211; The certificate chain was issued&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Note:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I did not resolve this issue, but am sharing this because of the unsuccessful time spent on Google trying to find a resolution to to this issue.\u00a0 Hoping it will help someone with the same issue working with Excel to refresh data from a SQL Server database.<\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-cursor-target\"><strong>Issue:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-cursor-target\">An Excel user was granted access via an Active Directory group read-only permission to a SQL Server database.\u00a0 His permissions was verified\/tested successfully by setting up a new ODBC connection.\u00a0 A co-worker gave this user a spreadsheet that refresh the data from this database on the SQL Server.\u00a0 When the user attempted to refresh the data in the spreadsheet, the Data-Source error appeared below.<\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-cursor-target\"><strong>Error:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-cursor-target\">A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: SSL Provider, error: 0 &#8211; The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/SSL_Error_PopUp.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2055 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/SSL_Error_PopUp.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1713\" height=\"166\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Resolution:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Click on the <strong>Data<\/strong> tab<\/p>\n<p>Click the <strong>Get Data<\/strong> drop down list, and click on the <strong>Launch Power Query Editor\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/SSLerror01.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2054 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/SSLerror01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1168\" height=\"899\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/SSLerror01.jpg 1168w, http:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/SSLerror01-300x231.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/SSLerror01-1024x788.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/SSLerror01-768x591.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/SSLerror01-210x162.jpg 210w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1168px) 100vw, 1168px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When the Power Query Editor opens, click on the <strong>Data Source Settings<\/strong> button<\/p>\n<p>When the Data source settings pop-up opens, make sure the data source is highlighted &amp;
