{"id":1771,"date":"2019-03-02T10:31:13","date_gmt":"2019-03-02T10:31:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/?p=1771"},"modified":"2019-03-02T10:31:13","modified_gmt":"2019-03-02T10:31:13","slug":"fdhost-exe-process-is-not-controlled-by-the-update-wizard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/?p=1771","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;fdhost.exe&#8217; Process Is Not Controlled By The Update Wizard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When applying a hotfix update to SQL Server 2012, the step where &#8220;Check File In Use&#8221; produced the following error:<\/p>\n<pre>The 'fdhost.exe' process is not controlled by the update wizard. \r\nYou have to manually stop this process to avoid a computer restart.<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/fdhost_error.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1772 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theSQLReport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/fdhost_error.jpg\" alt=\"The 'fdhost.exe' process is not controlled by the update wizard. You have to manually stop this process to avoid a computer restart.\" width=\"868\" height=\"618\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Rebooting was not an option, because there more then SQL Server running on this server.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Things That Did Not Work:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>First, I killed the process in the Task Manger. Then I clicked on the Refresh Check button, and the process reappeared under a new Process ID.<\/p>\n<p>Next, I then went in to the Services app, and stopped the &#8220;SQL Full-text Filter Daemon Laucher (MSSQLSERVER)&#8221; service. Again, when on the Refresh Check button, and the process reappeared under a new Process ID.<\/p>\n<p>Third, in the task manager, I attempted to kill any process running under the user: MSSQLFDLaucher.\u00a0 The processes would just regenerate under a new Process ID.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Resolution:<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the Services App, stop both the&#8221;SQL Full-text Filter Daemon Launcher (MSSQLSERVER)&#8221; service, and the &#8220;SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)&#8221; service.
